Department Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST)

At the beginning of 2012 ETH Zurich has founded a new department that combines teaching and research in health sciences and medical engineering. This new department includes natural scientists and engineers working in four specialized areas:

• Food and Nutrition
  
• Medical Engineering
• Movement Sciences and Sport
• Neurosciences

These focal areas, as the pillars within the structure of the department, will further develop their individual profiles. Strategic research areas and interdisciplinary projects will unify these areas. The Department of Health Sciences and Technology of the ETH Zurich brings together the strengths, optimizes the synergies and supports with research and teaching, particularly the focal area “Technology and Knowledge for Health,” which will be especially promoted during the 2012-2016 planning period.

Knowledge and technology transfer to hospitals will be of major interest. The new department will provide teaching and research units geared toward developments with social impact.
