General information about writing the thesis can be found on the relevant pages of the student portal. Information about the registration for the doctoral examination is available on the same pages.

Handing in the thesis

Upon registration for the examination at the doctoral administration (Academic Services department)

The written thesis has to be handed in upon registration for the examination at the doctoral administration, Academic Services department. Formal requirements and information about the registration are published on the student portal as mentioned above.

The deadline for registration at the doctoral administration (Academc Services department) is min. 12 working days before the doctoral examination. However, it is preferred by the doctoral administration of the department to register earlier. Registration can take place anytime before the deadline.

The copy of the thesis which is handed in at the doctoral administratin (Academic Services department) upon registration for the examination will be used at the examination by the examination chair. After registration, it will be forwarded to the doctoral administration of the department who then issues the invitation to the examination and asks examiner and co-examiner(s) officially for their reviews.

Copies for examiner and co-examiners

The examiner and all co-examiners evaluate the thesis and hand in a report about the thesis before the examination. They each need to receive a copy of the thesis. The deadline to hand in a copy of the thesis to them is individual. It has to be arranged between examiner/co-examiners and the doctoral student.

After the doctoral examination

After the doctoral examination, the doctoral thesis has to be approved by the Department Conference. The date of this conference is mentioned on the invitation to the examination.

If at the doctoral examination it is decided that changes to the thesis are required, these changes have to be made before the Department Conference. Deadline: 1 week before the Department Conference.

Once the thesis has been approved by the Department Conference, the title and content may no longer be changed.

After the "Doctoral Graduation Date"

Shortly after the Department Conference, the thesis will officially be confirmed by the Academic Services department at the "Doctoral Graduation Date". At the same time, the student is exmatriculated. Within 6 months after this date the final "deposit copies" have to be handed in to the doctoral administration, Academic Services department.
