Lab2Market

Many research institutions focus more and more on applied research and emphasize the relevance of technology transfer.

More and more funding is spent and prizes are awarded to reinforce a generation of intellectual property leading to novel products for the market (e.g. Pioneer Fellows, Innogrants, Spark Awards available at ETH Zurich and EPFL). Furthermore, national innovation centers were built or are being planned such as the Technopark or the Innovationspark in Dübendorf.

Currently this is leading to an increasing number of patents, license contracts, spin-off companies – with the ETH Zurich being one of the most successful universities in the world in this respect.

This year's Research Day aims at illustrating how D-HEST contributes to these developments.

Insight is offered through concise presentations of research projects, a keynote by a leading industry executive, presentations about existing technology platforms, and visits to various labs.

The closing panel will discuss questions connected to the mentioned developments:

  • Are they satisfying an existing need?
  • Are they beneficial to our university and our society?
  • Are they a chance or a risk to basic research?
