2014

Roger Gassert appointed Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Engineering

19 September 2014 - At its meeting of 17/18 September 2014, the ETH Board appointed  Roger Gassert, currently Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich, as Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Engineering. Quote ETH News: "Roger Gassert conducts research at the interface between engineering, neuroscience and kinesiology. He develops mechatronic systems that explore the neuromechanical generation of movement and support people with disabilities. He uses this interdisciplinary approach to bridge the gap between neuroscientists and kinesiologists with a focus on fundamental research, and application-based engineering scientists, as well as hospitals working in the field of assistive technologies. This is an excellent fit with the goals of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology."

Walter Karlen, Jörg Goldhahn, and Bernd Wollscheid appointed professors at D-HEST

ETH Zurich has announced (see announcement 22 May 2014) that at its meeting of 21 and 22 May 2014, the ETH Board appointed three new professors at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology:

Dr. Walter Karlen

Dr Walter Karlen (*1979), currently a post-doctoral student at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, as Assistant Professor of Mobile Health Systems. Walter Karlen is an internationally recognised researcher who works on individualised methods and devices for use in healthcare. Specifically, he develops biomedical sensors that can be deployed via wearable systems (e.g. mobile phones) away from clinical centres in order to investigate the health of selected population groups. With the appointment of Walter Karlen, the Department of Health Sciences and Technology is strengthening its focus in the area of medical technology, rehabilitation and care.

Recording of inaugural lecture on 17 February 2015

Dr. Jörg Goldhahn

Dr Jörg Goldhahn (*1969), currently director of a research institute in the private sector and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich, as Adjunct Professor at ETH Zurich. Jörg Goldhahn's scientific achievements in the field of musculoskeletal medicine are impressive and satisfy the highest standards. He also makes an outstanding contribution to accelerating the transfer of knowledge and technology in his subject area.

Dr. Bernd Wollscheid

Dr Bernd Wollscheid (*1970), currently Senior Scientist and Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich, as Adjunct Professor at ETH Zurich. Bernd Wollscheid is one of the world's best-regarded scientists in the field of proteomics. He has received particular recognition for his work on methods of unambiguously identifying membrane proteins and deciphering specific ligand-receptor interactions.
