Prof. Alexander Mathys promoted as Associate Professor

22 Sep 2022 - At its meeting of 21 and 22 September 2022 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed Prof. Alexander Mathys, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich, as Associate Professor of Sustainable Food Processing in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Alexander Mathys is head of the Sustainable Food Processing Laboratory at ETH Zurich. The main aim of his research is to develop a more sustainable food system that will help achieve the sustainable development targets of the United Nations. His main interest lies in processing microalgae and insects into food and animal feed. He has an impressive list of publications to his name and has won several awards. Alexander Mathys is currently setting up a Future Food Laboratory at the Singapore-​ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability."

Prof. Emma Wetter Slack promoted as Full Professor at D-HEST

15 Jul 2022 - At its meeting of 13/14 July 2022 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board promoted Prof. Emma Wetter Slack, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich, as Full Professor of Mucosal Immunology in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Emma Wetter Slack’s research programme covers both novel technologies for the development of oral vaccines and research into functional microbiota. At ETH Zurich she set up the world’s first facility for the metabolic and behavioural analysis of animals that lack, or have very limited, microbiota. She has won a number of awards for her research, including the 2017 Latsis Prize from ETH Zurich and an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2019. In 2016 ETH Zurich also awarded her a Golden Owl for excellence in teaching."

New Professor at D-​HEST: Katharina Gapp

20 May 2022 - At its meeting of 18 and 19 May and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed Dr. Katharina Gapp, currently Senior Scientist at ETH Zurich, as Assistant Professor of Epigenetics and Neuroendocrinology in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Katharina Gapp’s main focus is on neuropsychiatric diseases, which are often hereditary to some extent. Today, these sometimes chronic illnesses present a major financial burden for healthcare systems throughout the world. Her research also has potential for clinical applications, including in the context of cancer research. Katharina Gapp's appointment will strengthen the links between the research areas of organic chemistry, health, endocrinology and neuroscience, both within and between departments."

Prof. Jess Snedeker zum ordentlichen Professor am D-HEST befördert

20 May 2022 - At its meeting of 18 and 19 May and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board promoted Prof. Jess Snedeker, currently Associate Professor at ETH Zurich, as Full Professor of Orthopaedic Biomechanics in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Jess Gerrit Snedeker’s basic research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the mechanical regulation of connective tissue diseases and repair. His work has far-​reaching implications for our understanding of healthy and pathological reactions and future treatment strategies. He is a committed researcher with an impressive list of publications, and is held in high esteem by the PhD students he supervises. Jess Gerrit Snedeker will continue to hold a dual professorship with the University of Zurich."
